On the state of the Cat Next Door
So I got to talk to my new neighbor today. She's cool, but she's freaking the fuck out about her cat right now. I got to meet the cats over there. Two girls, one about 5 yrs old and one about a year and a half. The younger one's the one that's pregnant, and she's pretty small. Definitely pregnant, though. So here are two things I know about pregnant cats: - When they get sorta big, they get very bitchy - When they're getting ready to go into labor, they don't like to be alone. With this in mind, Lacey instantly said, "OH MY GOD, she all of a sudden today wouldn't leave me!" Last night, she said the cat jumped on her bed, bled a little, and had something sticking out of her butt, but she licked it and it went away. She's been calling vets all night, and while it seems like that would be an obvious choice, all the vets are saying it's going to cost $900 if she needs a C-section. GAH! When I met the cat today, she was friendly and bitchy (purring, then biting). Since Lacey says she hasn't made any noise or seemed to be straining or uncomfortable, my guess is that she hasn't gone into labor yet. I would like to think that all those hours spent watching Animal Planet can be considered useful. The vets that Lacey talked to make it sound like labor is a one-shot deal. I, however, saw the cat, and she didn't act like she had a fever or was out of sorts. She hardly even looked uncomfortable.
